Hey friends,
This week I finished 6 years of University. Now comes the transition to working life. Getting a proper job, and finally getting paid!
I'm nervous, excited but most importantly ready for this move. Being a medical student has perks of flexible hours and teaching time, but I've missed having responsibility. One of the main responsibilities as a medical student is making sure you're ready for exams. This often takes precedence.
I can't wait for that responsibility to shift to being aimed solely at the patients under my care.
I'll keep you updated with my progress through the journey of becoming a doctor, so stay tuned for more.
Have a great week,
Jack

Life expectancy, 1997 to 2019 (Tweet)
This graph is crazy. The life expectancy in the U.S. and U.K. are plateauing—or even dropping—while the rest of the developed countries soar past them.
The countries providing some of the most sophisticated and innovative healthcare don't reflect this sophistication in their life expectancies. This illustrates the need for more primary prevention on diet, exercise and healthy living—amongst many other factors.
What do you think is causing these discrepancies?
Grace Beverley: How To Build A Multi-Million Pound Empire At 24 (Podcast)
It's easy to build up an unhealthy relationship with social media. What's a huge way to exacerbate that problem? An audience of hundreds of thousands of people.
Grace Beverley faced this issue early in her journey. She wasn’t very confident, but instead of taking time to find her own internal confidence, she filled the void with external validation.
I found it interesting that she wouldn't want her children to build a social media audience at a young age, having been through it herself. She said that they need time to build their own confidence and maturity before getting hijacked by the algorithms and social feedback.
This is contrary to what most young people aspire towards and should make us question whether the aspiration to be an influencer is a healthy one, or founded in the need for external validation.
Lots of great insight in this conversation of Grace's journey from Oxford University to building TALA (a sustainable activewear brand) and SHREDDY (the #1 female fitness transformation app).
Plans Are Worthless, But Planning Is Everything (Blog)
This week, I've been contemplating how important planning is to my YouTube channel. I've realised that to balance my videos with working full-time, I need to be more organised. My issue with plans is that I often act spontaneously and ignore them.
Through looking into this, I found this quote:
"Plans Are Worthless, But Planning Is Everything"
— Dwight Eisenhower
It's made me realise the importance of making a preliminary plan, but not necessarily always having to stick to it. I hope this can be useful to you this week.
